Exactly one year ago today, we launched Max Miles in Singapore. I vividly remember how naive and unprepared we were. We didn’t even know that 9.9 was a big shopping day!

On September 8th, we rushed to launch Max Miles just in time for 9.9, so that Maxers could start earning flexible, customer-centric Max Miles while shopping on one of the biggest sale days of the year.

In the last one full year, we owe everything to the overwhelming support from the Miles community, especially those who clicked the “Shop with Max” button on the first day it launched.

Looking back at this post, I’m almost in tears. I am profoundly proud that we held on to the key value of “No expiry, no fee, 1:1 transfer ratio” that made many love Max Miles.

We were bluntly honest on how limited (read: crappy) the initial Max Miles program was, and we vowed to improve it over time. And so we tried hard.

I’m super proud of our small yet mighty team’s progress. But yet, I want to be bluntly honest that the experience still kinda sucks, which includes that:

• There is still a 1-3 month wait for “Shop with Max” miles to be confirmed

• Missing Max Miles still occur

• Not enough places to earn consistently huge amounts of Max Miles

• “Where is KrisFlyer?” 

• Other reward currencies, like credit card points, are still fragmented

HeyMax.ai (‘HeyMax’), a Singapore-based travel rewards and personal finance platform for consumers to earn and redeem its reward currency Max Miles for travel rewards, and Visa today launched a campaign, “From MRT & Bus to Miles: HeyMax & Visa Reward Your Rides,” that offers Singapore’s public transport commuters miles for their daily commutes. This campaign supports sustainable travel by encouraging the use of MRT and public transport in Singapore, reducing daily carbon footprints. 

From August 29 - November 28, HeyMax users can earn three Max Miles per dollar spent on all MRT or bus rides by simply linking their Visa card to the HeyMax app. With every ride, users accumulate rewards while also contributing to more environmentally friendly travel choices. As part of this campaign, the more users travel on public transport and earn miles, the greater their chances of winning business class tickets to Japan, each worth 200,000 miles.

“With travel demand rising, we see a growing desire among Singaporeans to make travel free by maximizing points and miles from everyday spending. While the rewards include air miles that can be used for future travel, the core focus of the initiative is to foster sustainable habits in everyday life. By making public transport more rewarding, the aim is to strike a balance between encouraging green practices locally and offering participants the flexibility to enjoy travel experiences globally,” said Joe Lu, Cofounder and CEO of HeyMax.

Singapore consumers' growing demand for travel and experiential rewards is driving the growth of miles-based loyalty programs. According to HeyMax data, the top four merchants for Singapore users over the past six months are Agoda, Trip.com, Klook, and Singapore Airlines, based on data and insights from 23,000 monthly active users. 

Research and Markets projects that the loyalty market in Singapore will grow at a CAGR of 9.2% from 2024 to 2028, rising from USD 533.8 million in 2023 to USD 839.6 million by 2028. This reflects the growing trend in Singapore of utilizing rewards-based loyalty programs for travel, mirroring a broader global shift towards maximizing the use of points and rewards for travel-related expenses.

This campaign aligns with the Singapore government’s push for sustainable travel with its commitment investing S$60 billion (~US$43.5 billion) by 2030 to expand and upgrade the public transport network.

Singapore-founded loyalty platform HeyMax.ai today announced it has raised US$ 2.6 million (SG$ 3.5 million) in seed funding, led by January Capital, with participation from Tenity, Ascend Angels, XA Network and other strategic investors.

Founded in 2023 by four ex-Meta engineers, HeyMax.ai is a personal finance and shopping platform that allows consumers to earn Max Miles from over 500 businesses, and conveniently redeem them for any flights or directly transfer to miles and points at 25 airline and hotel partners.

Amid an inflationary environment and high living costs, consumers are more cautious with their spending and are seeking ways to maximise their purchasing power.

Optimising merchant and credit card rewards can be a challenge, but HeyMax.ai addresses this problem by building seamless interoperability across different business’ loyalty programs.  50 Million Max Miles given out to date

Max Miles can be redeemed for any commercial flight on any airline, or transferred to over 25 airline and hotel partner reward programs worldwide at a 1:1 ratio, with no fees or expiry dates. The company’s user base has grown to over 50,000 consumers, who have earned over 50 million Max Miles and redeemed over 10,000 flights since Max Miles launched in September 2023. 

The company also recently partnered with Visa to launch Card Maximiser. This collaboration helps consumers seamlessly track their spending across all Visa-branded cards, providing comprehensive and real-time insights into their card transactions and rewards accrual.
